Professional Experience

Neil Chantler has a wide range of experience in complex civil disputes. Neil has represented individuals, corporations, non-profit organizations, First Nations, unions, and strata corporations in a variety of matters before all levels of court in British Columbia.

With a strong commitment to Charter rights, civil liberties, and police misconduct issues, Neil frequently represents individuals with claims against municipalities and the provincial and federal governments.

Neil has appeared as counsel before several tribunals, coroner’s inquests, and provincial and federal public inquiries, including the Frank Paul Inquiry, the Missing Women Inquiry, and the Foreign Interference Inquiry in Ottawa.

Neil has a general civil litigation practice, with experience in public law, administrative law, employment law, and commercial law, and cases involving an array of legal issues such as injunctions, professional malpractice, civil forfeiture, Indigenous rights, wrongful dismissal, shareholder disputes, personal injuries, and defamation.

Neil’s clients benefit from his honest and practical advice, committed advocacy, and focus on achieving successful, timely results. As part of this approach, he embraces legal technologies that enhance efficiency, transparency, and value for his clients.

Neil founded Chantler & Company in 2014 and was a founding member of Gastown Litigation Counsel in 2024. Outside of his professional life, he is an avid mountain climber and the devoted father of three boys.
